Jeff needed a robust e-commerce presence that could showcase his diverse product line, support his business growth goals, and provide a seamless shopping experience for health-conscious customers. The site required WooCommerce expertise to handle hundreds of products across multiple categories, along with custom design work to reflect the natural, authentic brand identity. As a long-term partnership spanning over two years, this project has evolved from initial development into ongoing consultation and technical support.
Key Accomplishments and Contributions
WooCommerce Store Development and Optimization
The Barefoot Betters store features over 440 products organized across multiple categories including natural soaps, essential oils, mason jar accessories, and herbal supplements. I helped insttruct Jeff to configure WooCommerce to handle this extensive catalog efficiently, setting up product categories, implementing shipping options with estimated delivery timelines on the checkout form, and ensuring smooth order processing. Key technical work included configuring free shipping for products, implementing anti-hacker technology, and optimizing the checkout experience. The store now handles both product sales seamlessly.
Custom Divi Theme Design and Development
The entire site was built using the Divi theme and builder, creating a clean, modern design that reflects the natural and authentic brand values. This included developing custom page templates for blog posts and category archives, building a consistent visual style guide, and implementing responsive design for all breakpoints. I helped create specialized templates including a blog post category template and post category template for organizing content like recipes and wellness articles. The design emphasizes the brand’s commitment to clean, natural living through thoughtful typography, imagery, and layout choices that guide customers through their shopping journey.
Ongoing Business Consultation and Technical Support
Beyond initial development, this partnership includes regular business consultation through video meetings to discuss strategy, troubleshoot issues, and plan new features. I’ve provided guidance on e-commerce best practices, including SSL configuration for secure transactions, editor preferences (Classic Editor vs. Gutenberg), and spam reduction using Akismet. The collaborative approach includes shared task management through Todoist, where both Jeffery and I track action items from our meetings. Recent work has focused on implementing site monitoring through WP Remote for proactive maintenance and providing global breakpoint statistics for responsive design optimization.
Content Management and Blog Development
Consulted on a comprehensive content strategy including blog setup with proper categorization for essential oils, business topics, recipes, and wellness content. Jeff has been a great student abd created blog post checklists and workflows to ensure consistent publishing including scheduling, slugs, author attribution, and SEO optimization. We will soon set up MailPoet for newsletter subscriptions with custom subscription forms, which will enable Jeff to build his email list and engage customers with product updates, tips, and promotional content. The blog now serves as an educational hub that builds trust with customers while improving search visibility.
