Moving from Divi 4 to Divi 5: what actually changes, what breaks, and how to plan a migration that does not surprise you.
A client could not get blank lines to hold on one page, and my going-in theory was a CSS rule flattening everything. I was wrong. The copy had been pasted out of Word as div elements, and Divi’s spacing rule only targets paragraphs. Here is how to find it and fix it safely.
After upgrading my own site to Divi 5 the header dropdowns stopped appearing. Every instinct says a missing dropdown is a CSS problem, and I chased all of those. They were wrong. The menu was rendering on time, at the right coordinates, fully opaque. It was painting behind the page.
Divi powers more than 950,000 active WordPress installs, which makes it the most-used premium page builder in the field. So when a site owner asks me about Divi lock-in, they are not asking a theoretical question. They are asking what happens to a real site with real pages if they ever decide to walk away.
Divi outputs clean HTML and does nothing that holds rankings back, and Divi 5 cut frontend CSS by 94 percent, which helps Core Web Vitals directly. Here is what the theme actually controls, what your SEO plugin should be handling instead, and where Divi still loses to lighter themes.
The best Divi alternatives in 2026 are Elementor, Bricks Builder, Beaver Builder, Oxygen, and the native WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg). Each one wins in a different lane. There is no single “better than Divi” answer because the people asking the question want very different things.
Yes, Divi is good for beginners. A complete newcomer can grab a pre-made layout, swap out the text and images, and have a professional-looking site live without writing a single line of code. The Divi theme is built around a visual drag-and-drop interface that requires no coding experience, which is the whole reason it works for people who have never touched WordPress before.
Elementor powers roughly 13.1% of all WordPress sites and somewhere around 40-50% of the page builder market, according to Colorlib’s 2026 Elementor statistics roundup. Divi has been the second name in that conversation for a decade. The question of which one to pick has not changed. The honest answer has.
Divi offers three pricing plans: the annual plan at $89/year, a one-time lifetime plan for $249, and Divi Pro at $277/year. All plans include unlimited website usage and essential tools. The lifetime plan provides long-term savings, with no price increase for Divi 5 launched in 2026, making it a valuable option for users.
Elegant Themes spent three years rebuilding Divi from the ground up, and the numbers from the official benchmarks are hard to ignore. According to Elegant Themes, frontend JavaScript dropped 84% and CSS dropped 94% in the Divi 5 release.
Divi 5 shipped the production version on February 26, 2026, and the question I have been getting from clients and other WordPress developers ever since is simple. How do you actually get Divi 5 onto a real site. Not the marketing version. The real version, with a live Divi 4 install, third-party plugins, a Theme Builder header and footer, and a client who wants their contact form to keep working.
